DENVER — The Senate passed a bill Monday that would allow patrons of the Colorado State Fair to carry their alcoholic drinks anywhere on the Fairgrounds.
Having already passed the House, HB1099, sponsored by Rep. Sal Pace, D-Pueblo, and Sen. Abel Tapia, D-Pueblo, will return to the House for a vote on one minor amendment.
The bill passed in the Senate by a vote of 29-6.
Presently, Fairgoers are required to drink or dispose of their spirits in the area where they were purchased. State law forbids leaving a licensed liquor establishment with a drink, and under the proposal that would stay the same, except at the Fairgrounds..
The bill proposes to allow drinks to be carried throughout the Fairgrounds freely.
The only change to the bill in the Senate was a provision specifically allowing drinks to be moved through portions of the Fairgrounds not covered by any liquor license.
